Willem Barendsz was built in 1955 as a whale factory ship, was later a fish factory ship off South Africa during the 1960s and partially blamed for the collapse of South Africa’s fish stocks in the late 60s and 70s. For many years she was anchored in Table Bay between Robben Island and Blouberg until sold in the mid-70s.

Built by Wilton-Fijenoord, Schiedam 1955 (26830grt; 206m; 14kn). Whale-factory ship employed in Antarctic whale-catching. In 1965 to South Africa and converted into fish-factory. In 1973 to South Korea as YU SIN(SHIN), subs. GAE CHEOG NO 1 in 1978, subs. GAE GHEOG in 1981. To Alaska as n 1988.
